Post Macartum depression

Since we last cyber-met, the Macs - the house guests who make the hosts feel like the guests - have come and gone. In their wake, Eric has exhibited curious behaviour, with a "u". Immediately after the Macs left, Eric became "clingy". He wouldn't leave Deb's side. You could say he had a Debside manner. Given his history as a foster child, it is understandable that he would cling like a leach while trying to fathom the comings and goings of past and future masters, but three questions come to mind:

1) how could he know that the Macs left? They left many times during their visit. Are you telling me that Eric understands that luggage means forever - if you leave without luggage, you'll come back, but with luggage, you're gone for good? We all agree he is capable of deductive reasoning, but are you saying he's capable of inductive reasoning as well? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deductive_reasoning

2) why would he cling to Deb, not the Author? The Author is, after all, the Alpha Dog, uniquely capable of commanding little Eric, leading him peacefully on the leash, and making him come when he's called (two out of three ain't bad).

3) have you ever seen Eric and Worf in the same room? Worf is a Klingon, and Eric was clinging on - coincidence? I think not.
